100 Years of BAP!

Beta Alpha Psi was founded at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on February 12, 1919. This year marks the 100th year since being founded.

The Alpha chapter of Beta Alpha Psi celebrated this milestone by reflecting on the organization's past, present and future growth. BAP has created a lasting impact on many, developing its members professionally and personally, while creating friendships that last a lifetime.

We are so proud of how far our organization has come and are looking forward to seeing the continuous growth of the organization and its members!

Candidate Retreat

A new and highly anticipated tradition for the candidates during their rush semester is the Candidate Retreat. Candidate Retreat is an overnight bonding trip where candidates engage in team bonding activities to build and strengthen the relationships between each other.

This semester, Candidate Retreat was held in Vienna, IL where candidates engaged in activities such as Mafia, Peel the Onion, card games, skit performances etc. Overall, the candidates had a positive experience getting to know their candidate class! Candidates Jason Kang, Tiffany Chang and Jenna Muhametkhan shared their experiences of the trip:

Jason Kang
"Candidate retreat came to be much more than a trip to an isolated cabin in the middle of the woods. Sheltered under one oak ceiling surrounded by wildlife inside and out, we built a comradery on a foundation of laughs, heart to heart moments, scares, and smiles. Through this trip, I believe it laid a groundwork to build on top of these relationships to become much more than friends, but a team that each of us can lean on, can trust in!"

Tiffany Chang:
"Although at first I was freaked out by the random stuffed animals around the house, retreat was a fun time :) My favorite part of retreat was mafia in the dark when no one trusted anyone. I still laugh about it!!!"

Jenna Muhametkhan:
"The candidate retreat was the highlight of my BAP experience so far because I got to know my fellow candidates on a personal level and saw their fun sides. Spending a full day with them allowed us to feel comfortable hanging out after the retreat as well!"

Introducing Our Executive Board!

Towards the end of the Fall 2018 semester, the active body came together to vote on the new executive board for the 2019 academic year. After much deliberation, we are excited to present to you our newly elected executive board!

President: Josie Moy

"I am excited to get to know all the candidates and watch them grow throughout the semester and work together with the 3 pillars to put on creative events! I'm also excited to work with the whole executive board and our directors to make this a meaningful semester for all members of BAP!

VP Social: Yaros Ekimtcov

“I am looking forward to seeing how our organization grows, and how the new initiatives we have planned benefit BAP! Also, I am pumped to see how our new candidate class develops into the strong foundation of our honor society. As for my position, I want to introduce a lot of new events, while also keeping traditions going in order to make sure everyone in BAP is included and can have the most fun possible!"

"I am excited about getting to know all the candidates and being involved through the family system as The Uncle. Within my role as VP Corporate Relations, I am excited about strengthening BAP’s relationship with our current and prospective companies!"

VP Philanthropy: Rachel Salgado

"This semester I am super excited to get to know the candidates along with the actives through our fam events! With Philanthropy, I am looking forward to seeing how much our chapter can raise for the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club since this is the first time we have done a semester-long fundraiser. So far we've been making amazing progress and I have been so impressed by how much our chapter has given back!"

VP Marketing: Jimmy Jung

“As VP Marketing, I'm excited to increase our branding and exposure to prospective students along with our presence within the Gies College of Business! I’m also excited to get to know the new candidate class and see them grow both professionally and personally during their candidate semester!”

VP Membership: Jaena Kim

"I'm most excited to see how BAP will grow this upcoming semester -- the exec board is working hard to encourage an environment where actives and candidates not only develop meaningful relationship, but grow as the next future leaders of the organization. I personally gained a lot from the organization, and so I'm here to make sure everyone has the same meaningful experience that I had both socially and professionally. When I was a candidate, I realized that the moment I got into BAP my connection to BAP will always be there. It's a lot of work, but I'm excited to be a part of the process to cultivate BAP into an organization that members are proud to be a part of!"

VP Communication: Daniel Kim

"As VP Communication, I look forward to improve on miscommunications that may have happened last year and just keep moving on and being consistent every week. As an exec board member, I really wish to help others succeed and achieve their goals! Classes end in May but relationships don’t expire and I wish to renew them every time I get a chance! This not only applies to actives but also the alumni who’s contributed so much throughout the years and would love to keep maintaining contact even after my role as Director of Alumni Relations last semester".

VP Finance: Felicia Huang

"In regards to this semester, I am really looking forward to meeting all the candidates. As Vice-President of Finance, I am also working with the rest of the executive board to plan for some fun events in the next couple of weeks. More specifically, I am looking forward to all the events in April/May with initiation and graduation coming up. Additionally, it is crazy to think that I was going through the same rush process just over a year ago. Thus, looking months ahead, I am excited about the next rush season. It's great to see the enthusiasm people have during the entire process."

We wish our new executive board the best of luck and are we are excited to see the impact they make on our organization!

We are so proud of you and all your accomplishments during your candidate semester!

Exodus World Service

Throughout the semester, our chapter partnered with the organization Exodus World Service by collecting household supplies to donate to a refugee family. Exodus World Service is an organization that helps welcome refugees into the community by providing tutors for English, connecting them with American families, and donating supplies to make their transition to the States a little easier.
Last Tuesday, April 24, Mike Eichhorn and Matt Baranowski traveled up to Chicago to personally deliver the supplies to the refugee family and welcome them to the United States. Here's what Mike had to say about his experience:

"Matt and I left at around 3:30pm to head to Chicago. The apartment was located in the Lincoln Park area and was actually pretty nice. We helped the Nguerebanda family which consisted of two brothers: Steven and Joseph. Both only spoke French, so there was a translator there for us to communicate with them. The two had just arrived from Brazzaville which is the capital of Congo, but they are originally from Central African Republic. Matt and I arrived at the house at about 7:30 and they had just landed at 6:15 so they were pretty tired (their plane ride was about 15 hours because they made a number of stops). After conversing for a bit, we helped them set up their new apartment with all of the supplies we had donated. We set the bed, organized the bathroom and kitchen, etc. Because they were both exhausted from the plane ride, we did not stay very long after setting up. Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding experience."

Check out the pictures below of Nguerebanda family and their new home!

It is so incredible to see the impact that BAP made on Steven and Joseph's new life. Huge shout out to Matt and Mike for helping the family set up, and thanks to our awesome members that supported this amazing cause.

Canoe on the Kickapoo

Last Sunday, April 22, BAP took an adventure out to Kickapoo State Park to canoe 8 miles down the river for an afternoon. Although some members have had experience on the water before, for many it was their very first time rowing down the river. Even though there were some capsized canoes, everyone made it down the river safely, and felt an even closer connection with their brothers.
Check out the highlights below!

Food by Exec

Dinner's Ready!

Last Sunday, April 15, in place of our usual chapter, the Exec team treated the entire chapter to homemade dinner! Not only did we enjoy some amazing food, but we also had the opportunity to hear from Dee Walker, an audit manager at Caterpillar, and her incredible career.

Check out these pictures of BAP having a great time together!

Huge shout out to the Exec team for providing FANTASTIC food, and thanks again to Dee for spending some time with our chapter.
